From the moment you walk through the door of our office, your comfort is our priority. The first orthodontic appointment is an important one, starting with a chance for in-depth information about your orthodontic needs and concluding with a treatment plan highlighting your smile transformation. Here’s a rundown of what to expect:

Preparation and Paperwork

The very first thing that will happen during your initial consultation appointment is a bit of paperwork. The New patient registration form can be completed in advance online, but it’s still advised to show up a few minutes early just in case anything has been missed. Come prepared for your appointment by bringing:

• Your referral form, if applicable. 
• Any previous X-rays or other imaging on a CD, if applicable. 
• Photo ID (if under 18, a parent or legal guardian must be present.)
• Insurance information. 
• List of current medications.

Imaging and Exam

Once the paperwork has been completed, it’s on to the good stuff. Our expert team will take x-rays and digital imaging of your teeth and inside your mouth to give us the most accurate information about what’s going on in there. Dr. VandeBerg will also provide a visual exam to look at your bite, alignment, and jaw positioning.  

Feedback and Finances

Using data gathered from the exam and imaging, you will then be presented with a customized treatment plan that takes into account your dental needs and personal goals. We will go over the type of braces available to you and answer any questions that might come up regarding any aspect of treatment. Expect to learn:

• Treatment Options: This may include metal braces, ceramic braces, Invisalign, Damon™  braces, or other orthodontic appliances. 
• Treatment Timeline: The predicted length of treatment varies from person to person, depending on the type of treatment and the severity of the issues. Most orthodontic treatments can be expected to take anywhere from six months to over two years. 
• Treatment Details: You will be provided with a thorough rundown of the proposed treatment, where you’ll be told how it works, what to expect as far as appointments, and any lifestyle changes that will be necessary. 
• Treatment Cost: We will also go over the financial component of treatment with you, including available insurance benefits and potential financial plans we can offer. 

New Beginnings and Braces 

The first orthodontic appointment is one filled with information and possibility. Some patients want to think things over, which is perfectly okay and normal. Some people, however, are ready to get started right away! For most cases, we can perform the procedure in 30 minutes or less.
